Wishing WellGardens & Landscaping

Your questions answered

Everything you might want to ask.

Grouped by where you are in the decision — from early research through the build to the years after. If your question isn't here, just call and ask.

Before you call

Do you charge for a site survey or quote?

No. The site survey and the itemised quote that follows are free and come with no obligation. Richard comes out, walks the garden with you, listens to how you want to use it and then puts a clear plan and price to it — whether it's a single patio or a full transformation. As one client put it, he explains what's needed, how the job will be carried out, the timescale and the cost, so you know exactly where you stand before deciding.

Will I actually deal with Richard, or a salesperson?

Richard. Wishing Well Gardens & Landscaping has been family-run since 2004 and Richard leads every job himself — which is exactly why clients name him personally in review after review. There's no sales layer between you and the person doing the work; when you have a question, you ask the man who's answerable for it.

Do you only do big projects, or smaller jobs too?

Both. We take on full garden transformations, but we also lay a single patio, build a wall, put in a base for a shed or greenhouse, install a run of fencing or fit artificial grass. Plenty of clients start with one job and have us back for the next — Simon Cocks had us replace fencing and build bases for a greenhouse and a soft-play area in one go.

What areas do you cover?

We're based on Sansome Road in Shirley, Solihull, and cover more than 26 locations across Solihull, Kenilworth, Warwick, Royal Leamington Spa, Redditch, Coventry and the surrounding villages. If you're not sure you're in range, give Richard a call and we'll tell you straight.

How long have you been trading?

Since 2004. We're a family-run business, and after two decades working across Solihull and Warwickshire a lot of our work now comes from repeat clients and their recommendations. Our project gallery is updated regularly as new jobs are finished.

During the project

Will the same team see the whole job through?

Yes. We're a multi-skilled team, so one crew carries the work from groundwork and levels through paving, walling, decking, fencing, lawns, structures and lighting, with Richard leading throughout. When one team is answerable for the whole garden, nothing gets lost between separate trades — and you always know who you're dealing with.

Can you handle several different jobs in one visit?

That's often how we work. On one project we replaced a client's boundary fencing and built bases for both a greenhouse and a soft-play area in the same job. Because the team covers paving, walling, fencing, decking, bases and structures, we can bring a mixed brief together into one coordinated scheme rather than sending you off to find separate contractors.

Will you keep the site tidy and explain each stage?

Yes — clients regularly mention it. We're punctual and polite, we explain what's needed and how we'll carry the job out before we start, and we take real pride in the finish, leaving the site clean when we're done. A tidy, well-run site is part of the job, not an afterthought.

How long does a garden project take?

It depends entirely on the scope — a run of fencing or a base might be a day or two, a patio a week or so, and a full transformation longer. We'll give you a realistic timescale with your quote, along with the cost and the method, so there are no surprises once we're on site.

Can you work with sloping or awkward gardens?

Very much so. Retaining walls, levelled bases and proper drainage are core hard-landscaping work for us — building in the structure a sloping or awkward plot needs so the finished patio, lawn or deck sits level and lasts.

Quality, guarantee & after we're done

Is your work guaranteed, and are you insured?

Yes to both. Our work is guaranteed for your peace of mind, and we're fully insured throughout the project. It's part of why so many local families are comfortable having us back for the next job.

How do I know the paving is built to last, not just to look right?

The difference is all in what you can't see. We lay paving — block, porcelain, natural or Indian stone — on a properly prepared, consolidated base and to correct falls, so patios, driveways and paths drain and sit level rather than sinking and rocking a few years on. We rebuilt one client's sinking patio doing exactly that, start to finish.

What's the advantage of artificial grass over turf?

It comes down to how you want to use the garden. Artificial grass is low maintenance, kinder to allergy sufferers and saves water through the summer, with no mowing — ideal for busy families or shaded plots where turf struggles. Where you'd rather have a natural lawn, we lay rolled turf on fully prepared ground. Both start with proper ground preparation.

Can you build a base for a hot tub, shed or greenhouse?

Yes — it's regular work for us. We build concrete slab bases and prepared, levelled foundations for outbuildings, sheds, hot tubs, greenhouses and play areas, so whatever sits on top stands square and stays put. We can supply and install the greenhouse itself too.

Still wondering about something?

The quickest way to a straight answer is a call to Richard, or a quick message with a photo of the garden. No obligation, no pressure.
